Letter from our Chairman “Let me tell you just a few things about the firm that everyone should know. It was founded by 9 partners and one associate 27 years ago. Our first offices were on the 12th floor of the old Sheraton Hotel building where the air conditioning system was so bad that we had to cover our equipment with plastic sheeting each night because the air conditioning overflow pans overflowed onto our furniture and equipment almost every night from the floor above. We have survived Hurricane Alicia in 1982 which blew away part of our library and could have blown us all away, and we even survived the great flood of 2001. Through all of that we not only survived, we prospered because this is a remarkable firm populated by remarkable people. And you bet I am proud of this enterprise. While there has been a lot of discussion of late about there being no place for a mid-size firm, don't kid yourself. We're still here and prospering and its good to remember that in a world of dinosaurs, it is the quickest, most nimble, most adaptable that prosper. If we simply continue to offer “positively outrageous service,” deliver work earlier than promised, if we do things wholly out of proportion of what is asked and unexpected, there will always be a place for us in this or any other legal community.”  —Bill Porter
