Jeffrey Elkin is a partner in the litigation section of Porter & Hedges. He has extensive experience representing clients in litigation matters involving complex commercial disputes, federal and state securities laws, and business torts. His practice involves representing publicly-held corporations, private companies, individuals, lenders, investment advisors, and registered broker/dealers before federal and state district courts throughout the United States and before arbitration panels of the American Arbitration Association and FINRA.  

Mr. Elkin is also a certified mediator, having successfully completed Mediation Training at the University of Houston Law Center.  Since January 2009, he has served as the mediator in numerous cases involving complex commercial and consumer disputes. Mr. Elkin is a member of the Association of Attorney-Mediators and is a candidate for credentialing with the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association.

Mr. Elkin was named a “Texas Super Lawyer” in the area of business litigation in the 2009 Texas Monthly survey.  Prior to joining Porter & Hedges in 1994, Mr. Elkin was an associate in the Houston office of Baker Botts, L.L.P.

  • Represented international oil and gas reserve engineering firm in $25 million fraud, negligence, and conspiracy action.
  • Represented lenders to Enron in action against agent banks and securities affiliates.
  • Defended Special Committee of board of directors of hospitality and entertainment company in shareholder going-private class action litigation.
  • Represented Internet-based information distribution company in federal DPPA class action lawsuit.
  • Represented oil and gas investment company in fraud action against drilling program general partner and operator.
  • Defended national brokerage firms and individual financial advisors in FINRA arbitrations.
  • Legal counsel to the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Houston, Inc.
