The American Lawyer has recognized Porter Hedges in its 2015 Global Legal Awards in the category of ‘Global Finance Deal of the Year: Project Finance’ for the Freeport LNG project financing.

The Global Legal Awards aims to honor all law offices – including in-house legal departments – that played a “substantial role in the most distinguished international work performed between Jan 1, 2014 and April 15, 2015.”  The contest this year attracted 225 entries across 30 categories.  The work honored ranges from M&A to corporate finance to litigation to global pro bono and citizenship efforts.

Freeport LNG is a $12.5 billion liquefied natural gas export terminal in Freeport, Texas.  Construction of the liquefaction project started in November 2014.  LNG production from the first liquefaction train is expected in early 2018, with commercial operation of the first train expected to commence by the third quarter of 2018.  Twenty-seven of the world's foremost project finance and investment banks are lending to the project.

Porter Hedges served as local counsel for an investor in the first liquefaction train of the LNG project, conducting due diligence with respect to Texas real estate, commercial, and regulatory matters and consulting regularly on local law matters and on a variety of legal arrangements.
