The Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) announced today that Porter Hedges attorneys Amy Wolfshohl and Sean McChristian have received Board Certification in Construction Law.  This is the first year that the TBLS has offered a certification in construction law and Texas is only the second state to certify construction lawyers (after Florida).

Board Certification is a voluntary designation program certifying Texas attorneys in 22 specific areas of law. Board Certified attorneys must be licensed for at least five years, devote a required percentage of practice to a specialty area for at least three years, attend continuing education seminars, pass an evaluation by fellow lawyers and judges and pass a 6-hour written examination.

The Chair of the Porter Hedges Construction Section, David Peden, was appointed to the Standards Committee by the Chair of the Construction Law Section for the State Bar of Texas.  Along with ten other active members, David has been instrumental in bringing this exam to Texas.  He notes, “This is a tremendous accomplishment for all of the newly certified construction lawyers in Texas.  We are especially proud of Amy and Sean as this accomplishment demonstrates their broad knowledge of the complex Texas construction laws.”

Amy Wolfshohl is a partner in the litigation and construction practice groups at Porter Hedges. She represents businesses in commercial disputes in state and federal court as well as arbitration.  She also represents companies in negotiating and analyzing risk in connection with transactions relating to construction. Before practicing law, Amy was a project engineer for general contractors in Texas and California. She received her JD from the University of Houston Law Center and graduated first in her class from the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University.

Sean McChristian is an associate in the construction section at Porter Hedges. He represents subcontractors, contractors and owners in a variety of construction cases.  His practice also focuses on resolving complex business issues and disputes involving contracts, trade secrets, intellectual property, and business torts.
