Meghann Myers is an associate in the litigation practice group and construction section of Porter Hedges. Her practice focuses on the representation of general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, developers, design professionals and owners in a variety of construction related disputes.

Ms. Myers has represented clients both in trial and arbitration, as well as in preparing mechanic’s and materialmens’ liens, lien releases and bond claims, participating in mediation and other settlement discussions, drafting, revising and negotiating construction contracts, filing motions and preparing legal arguments, taking and defending depositions, and drafting memoranda and researching issues with respect to the common law and statutes relating to the construction industry such as the Prompt Pay Act, the Texas Property Code, and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

Ms. Myers graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law and was a member of the Tennessee Law Review. While on the Tennessee Law Review, she received the Editor's Award in 2007 for her work as a Research Editor, and the Second Year Editor's Award in 2006. She earned certificates for academic excellence in trial practice, family law and domestic violence seminar.

Prior to joining Porter Hedges, Ms. Myers was an associate at Smith Cashion & Orr, PLC in Nashville, Tennessee, where she practiced construction litigation.

Representative Experience

  • While on a secondment, assisted Fortune 500 international chemical company client with the drafting and negotiation of construction related agreements such as engineering, procurement and construction agreements, equipment purchase orders, and service subcontracts for a multi-million dollar chemical plant construction project
  • Represented a banking institution in a lien priority dispute in a bench trial in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division
  • Obtained a summary judgment in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Lufkin Division, for a chemical company dismissing a former employee’s claims of age discrimination under the ADEA
  • Successfully defended a summary judgment filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division, by a subcontractor seeking to dismiss claims brought by the general contractor for a defective design of a detention pond
  • Successfully defended a summary judgment filed by a general contractor against a concrete subcontractor seeking to dismiss the subcontractor’s claims based on its failure to obtain a contracting license in Florida
  • Negotiated a favorable settlement for a waterproofing contractor in a multi-party suit involving claims by a University against the general contractor and several subcontractors for building leaks
  • Negotiated a favorable settlement for a design builder client in a suit for construction defects by the homeowner
