| Education J.D., summa cum laude, South Texas College of Law, 2009 B.S.W., summa cum laude, Southwestern Adventist University, 2005 | Shayla Friesen is an associate in the corporate practice group of Porter Hedges. Her practice focuses on representing public and private companies in mergers and acquisitions, as well as in general corporate matters and compliance with securities laws. She is also involved with corporate reorganizations and restructurings, acquisitions within the bankruptcy context, and creditors’ rights.
While in law school, Ms. Friesen served as a member of the South Texas Law Review and received excellence awards in numerous subjects including corporations, federal income taxation, contracts, torts, property, oil and gas, legal research and writing, and business bankruptcy. She is a member of Phi Delta Phi and the Order of the Lytae.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Friesen served as a law clerk for the Honorable Jeff Bohm of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. |

- Representation of the Situs Companies LLC, a global real estate advisory firm, in the sale of 100% of its equity interest to Helios AMC, a rated special servicer sponsored by Ranieri Partners Management LLC
- Representation of a NYSE listed international oilfield services company in the acquisition of several private manufacturing companies, including a company formed under the laws of the Sultanate of Oman
- Representation of an oil and natural gas exploration and production company in a dispute regarding termination of an international swaps and derivatives agreement
- Representation of clients in various industries in the negotiation of asset and stock acquisitions and dispositions, term and revolving credit facilities, employment and non-competition agreements, commercial contracts, and office and real estate leases
- Representation of debtors and debtors-in-possession, post-confirmation plan agents, and liquidation trustees in chapter 11 cases
- Representation of chapter 7 trustees in connection with bankruptcy litigation and matters related to estate liquidation and administration
- Representation of preference and fraudulent transfer defendants in bankruptcy cases nationwide
