Susan Hellinger is a partner in the litigation practice group of Porter Hedges with almost 20 years of civil trial and appellate experience. She represents public and private corporations, partnerships, and foreign and domestic individuals in a wide variety of civil litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts. Her practice focuses on complex, multi-party commercial litigation, antitrust litigation and compliance, and products liability litigation.

Ms. Hellinger has successfully handled appeals in Texas appellate courts and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Her trial practice also emphasizes written advocacy, including motion practice involving complicated summary judgment issues and intricate challenges to expert witnesses in myriad disciplines.

Ms. Hellinger was selected for inclusion in Texas Rising Stars from 2004-2008.

Representative Experience

  • Represented leading peer-to-peer (“P2P”) software developer in prominent secondary copyright infringement case brought by the major record labels involving requested damages of over $500 million.
  • Represented a major generator of electricity in antitrust lawsuits alleging manipulation of the deregulated Texas electricity market and secured dismissal of the claims against the generator.
  • Represented a major pharmaceutical manufacturer in a lawsuit arising from the use of a popular over-the-counter medication involving significant challenges to testimony of experts in a multitude of disciplines.
  • Represented a generic pharmaceutical manufacturer in protracted litigation culminating in a summary judgment for the manufacturer on the bulk of the claims against it.
  • Represented multiple landowners in extensive wind lease negotiations with several renewable energy companies relating to a wind energy project in South Texas.
  • Represented an individual in successful appeal involving claims against him arising from actions he took when a member of Houston city government.
  • Represented a wealthy oilman, and ultimately his estate, at trial and on appeal in a highly publicized suit involving claims for tortious interference, fraud, conspiracy, defamation, and usury.
  • Represented a large credit reporting agency in an antitrust lawsuit alleging conspiracy and monopolization in the credit reporting industry.
  • Represented prominent Houston oilman following the sale of his company in a contract dispute with the purchaser-natural gas company and obtained a favorable jury verdict and judgment.
  • Represented a purchaser of a foreclosed company who was later sued in a shareholder derivative suit by investors of the foreclosed company and obtained favorable judgment following trial.
  • Represented a major insurance company in numerous multiparty asbestos cases.
  • Represented a major insurance company at the trial and appellate level in numerous lawsuits for breach of contract and a variety of tort claims.
