Porter Hedges Energy partner Bob Thomas led a panel discussion on recent trends in the energy industry.
"...a panel of Houston-area experts dove deeper into the impact of those fundamentals on Houston, especially the recent advent of large-scale shale production.
The panelists included Jim Whalen, executive chairman of Targa Resources Partners LP; Martin Phillips, managing partner at EnCap investments LP, and James Tramuto, vice president of governmental and regulatory strategies at Southwestern Energy Co..
All agreed that the “shale gale,” a revolution largely driven by technology, would mark a full paradigm shift in domestic energy, and that the activity — and money — already bear this out.
But it was panel moderator Bob Thomas, lead energy partner at the law firm of Porter Hedges LLP, who summed up the local impact most succinctly.
'For all of you who work with and serve the industry, the boom is happening right now,” Thomas said. “All the international players are chasing the shale boom right back to Houston, which is a good thing for all of us.'"
