HOUSTON, July 8, 2013: James Cowen, leader of the Porter Hedges Corporate Practice Group, has been elected chair of the Houston Bar Association's Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Section for the 2013-2014 term. He previously served as Treasurer (2012-2013).
With more than 500 members, the M&A Section focuses on the role played by lawyers in negotiating and documenting business acquisitions, divestitures, mergers and related transactions. The Section’s principal activities include: discussing and debating issues of current relevance and interest to practitioners in the M&A and investment community; and sponsoring and presenting educational programs on M&A-related topics.
The Houston Bar Association (HBA), established in 1870, provides education, professional development and service programs for both the legal profession and the community. With well over 10,000 members, it's the fifth largest metropolitan bar association in the nation.
James represents public and private companies and individuals in a variety of corporate and securities matters. His practice includes public and private offerings of equity and debt securities, mergers and acquisitions, SEC compliance, corporate governance, executive employment agreements and compensation, and general corporate matters. James represents clients in the oil and gas, biopharmaceutical, technology, chemical and manufacturing industries. He also represents investment banking firms, investors and indenture trustees in capital market transactions.
