Houston, Texas, January 17, 2014 -- Porter Hedges announced today that three lawyers have been elected as partners effective January 1, 2014. The new partners are Susan E. Cates (litigation), Heather K. Hatfield (litigation) and William B. Rasmussen (trusts/probate/estate planning).

During this time, all three have developed into excellent lawyers that embody our commitment to client service at Porter Hedges. We are excited to have Susan, Heather and Bill join the partnership.”
Susan Cates (Litigation)
Ms. Cates’ practice focuses on employment litigation and consulting, business litigation, and construction litigation. She has litigated cases in both federal and state courts. She has represented clients in cases involving noncompete agreements, misappropriation of trade secrets, discrimination and harassment, breach of contract claims, and numerous other employment-related disputes. Ms. Cates has also represented employers before several administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor, and the Texas Workforce Commission. Ms. Cates is a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee and is active in the firm’s Women’s Initiative program.
Heather Hatfield (Litigation)
Ms. Hatfield’s practice involves a variety of matters, including complex commercial litigation, contract disputes, oil and gas litigation, corporate investigations and white collar crime defense involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, insurance defense disputes, and construction disputes. She was selected by her peers for inclusion in Texas Rising Stars in 2012 and 2013 for Business Litigation. She has been a member of the firm's Recruiting and Diversity Committees since 2007 and is active in the firm's Women's Initiative program.
Bill Rasmussen (Trusts/Probate/Estate Planning)
Mr. Rasmussen’s practice involves all aspects of wealth preservation planning, encompassing wills and trust agreements, estate, gift and income tax planning, probate and trust administration, marital property agreements, asset preservation, and related business planning. He also assists clients with the formation and administration of private foundations and other tax-exempt entities and works with individual clients to integrate their charitable goals with the transfer of family wealth to succeeding generations. Mr. Rasmussen is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
