The American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) has elected Porter Hedges litigation partner Clay Steely as a member of its esteemed organization. ABOTA is a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Membership to ABOTA is by invitation only. Inducted members must have significant experience trying cases before juries to a verdict and exhibit the virtues of civility, integrity and professionalism. ABOTA’s mission is to “foster improvement in the ethical and technical standards of practice in the field of advocacy to the end that individual litigants may receive more effective representation.”
Mr. Steely has tried cases to a verdict and arbitrated cases to a final award for two decades. He has been responsible for and has extensive experience in negotiating and litigating contract, tort, property and environmental matters mainly in the energy field. He is honored and humbled by his elevation. “ABOTA is one of the brass rings of a trial lawyer’s career. I’m honored to be inducted and honored that for the past 20 years clients have believed in me enough to represent them and if necessary present their cases to a jury”.
