Our eight-week Summer Associate Program is designed to give a realistic view of the practice at Porter Hedges. Each summer associate is assigned a partner and associate adviser and is given an opportunity to work in several areas of practice within the firm. Work assignments consist of a variety of "real-life" projects similar to those handled by our new associates. This may involve attending trials, hearings, depositions, and negotiating sessions, drafting documents and conducting legal research.
Our summer associates have come to us from an array of superior law schools. The schools represented by our recent summer associates include University of Houston Law Center, University of Texas School of Law, South Texas College of Law, and SMU Dedman School of Law.
When planning for the summer program, we try to cater to each summer associate's interests while simultaneously showcasing the city of Houston.
Some of the events held in past summers include:
- Happy Hours
- Clerk-Only Lunches
- Section-Specific Dinners at Partners' Homes
- All-Attorney Dinners and Receptions
- Associate Progressive Dinners featuring Houston food trucks
- Brewery Night
- Karaoke Night
- Top Golf
- Wine Tasting
- Trivia Night
- Tennis Night with a Pro
- Astros Game
- Business Development Luncheon
- Professional Development Seminars
Our compensation package for summer and new associates is competitive with that of other large firms in the Houston downtown market.
The Firm also pays for parking for summer associates, in addition to moving expenses, reimbursement for bar review and bar exam fees, and comprehensive medical, dental, life and disability insurance for new associates.
