Porter Hedges Announces Recipients of 2025 Pre-Law Scholarship at Texas Southern University
Porter Hedges is pleased to announce that Makayla Gustave and Michaela Menka are the recipients of its Pre-Law Scholarship at Texas Southern University (TSU), one of the nation’s largest historically black colleges and universities.
Makayla, a senior from West Palm Beach, Florida, is majoring in Administration of Justice. She is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and recently served as the Community Service Co-Chair for TSU’s Criminal Justice Association. She aspires to begin a career as a prosecutor following law school.
Michaela, a junior from Houston, Texas, is majoring in Administration of Justice. She is a participant in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC), and she aspires to be a Judge Advocate General (JAG) in the United States Marine Corps following law school.
As scholarship recipients, both students will receive a $10,000 academic scholarship and participate in a 9-month mentorship program, which includes sessions with Porter Hedges attorneys and a mentorship pairing with a third-year law student from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at TSU. The scholarship was established in April 2021.
“We are proud to continue our support for undergraduate scholarships at TSU. Both Makayla and Michaela have demonstrated a commitment to military service combined with impressive academic credentials and outstanding student leadership,” said Joyce Kao Soliman, Co-Managing Partner and Chair of the Firm’s Impact Program. “We sincerely congratulate them on this well-deserved award.”
The Porter Hedges Pre-Law Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students at TSU who are interested in pursuing a career in law upon graduation.
