Joanna’s practice focuses on all aspects of bankruptcy and restructuring, with a particular emphasis on debtor representation in complex chapter 11 and chapter 15 cases across many industries, including crypto, energy, transportation, real estate, and hospitality.

She also has experience in special investigations as well as bankruptcy litigation and appeals, including representing creditors’ committees.

Joanna draws on her prior experience at a premier litigation firm and as a tax associate at a Wall Street law firm, where she focused on tax planning for complex transactions, including corporate restructurings, private and public mergers and acquisitions, private equity, as well as formation and operation of private investment funds, including those investing in energy and in digital assets and blockchain technologies. Joanna’s research on blockchain was cited by the European Parliament.

Actively involved in the restructuring community, Joanna serves as Co-Chair of the ABI Commercial and Regulatory Law Committee, Chair of the Houston Network of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC), member of the international board of IWIRC (Communications Committee, UNCITRAL Committee, and IWIRC@NCBJ Program Committee), member of the State Bar of Texas Bankruptcy Law Section 2027 Bench Bar Conference Planning Committee, and executive board member of The Honorable Artur L. Moller – David B. Foltz Jr. American Inn of Court. She is also a member of the TMA and INSOL.

In 2026, Joanna was selected as the only United States IWIRC delegate to the UNCITRAL Colloquium on Harmonizing Law in The Age of Digital Trade and Finance taking place at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

Joanna is a participant in the Class of 2026 National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges NextGen Program. In 2026, Porter Hedges nominated her as an LCLD Pathfinder. She has also been named a Houston Bar Foundation Fellow.
