Emily Norman focuses her practice on labor and employment litigation and counseling. Emily handles unfair competition disputes, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in cases regarding non-competition/non-solicitation agreements and misappropriation of trade secrets. Emily also defends clients against wage and hour claims, including class and collective actions under the FLSA and Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23. Emily routinely defends against claims of discrimination, retaliation, and harassment under Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, the FMLA, and equivalent state employment laws.
With respect to counseling, Emily provides preemptive advice to clients to mitigate risks and avoid claims, guiding clients through hiring and firing decisions, employee complaints, and adherence to federal and state law. Emily drafts and revises corporate policies, employee handbooks, restrictive covenants, and employment agreements.
Emily received her J.D. from Baylor Law School where she served as an Executive Editor of the Baylor Law Review, was a member of the Women’s Legal Society and Baylor Barrister Society, and a competitor of the Baylor Moot Court Trial Team. During her time at Baylor Law School, Emily also completed a judicial internship for the Honorable Amos L. Mazzant III, Chief Judge of the Eastern District of Texas, and a judicial externship with the Honorable Alan Albright, a United States District Judge for the Western District of Texas. Prior to joining Porter Hedges, Emily served as judicial law clerk for the Honorable Amos L. Mazzant III, Chief Judge of the Eastern District of Texas.
Emily is currently a member of the Paul Brown American Inn of Court.
