IADC Names Joe Cohen to the Board of Directors

Porter Hedges litigation partner Joe Cohen has been named to the International Association of Defense Counsel's ("IADC") Board of Directors for 2022-23, serving a three-year term. The elections were announced at the IADC’s 2022 Annual Meeting on July 14, 2022, in Berlin, Germany.

The IADC is the preeminent invitation-only global legal organization for attorneys who represent corporate interests. Founded in 1920, the IADC has members who hail from six continents, 49 countries and territories, and all 50 U.S. states. The core purposes of the IADC are to enhance the development of skills, promote professionalism, and facilitate camaraderie among its members and their clients, as well as the broader civil justice community. Porter Hedges currently has three partners serving as members of the organization.

The IADC board oversees activities that benefit the organization’s members and their clients, as well as the civil justice system, the legal profession, and society in general.

Joe is ranked nationally by Chambers USA among the leading lawyers for Product Liability & Mass Torts. His practice focuses on handling catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases arising from allegations of products liability (including pharmaceutical products), chemical and substance exposure, general negligence, and commercial litigation. Joe also provides individual representation to employees (current and former) of pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers and biotech companies in both civil and criminal contexts, including U.S. Department of Justice and State Attorneys General investigations.

As a long-time member of IADC, Joe currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Foundation of the IADC and is currently Chair of the Drug, Device, and Biotech Committee. He is the Immediate Past Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (for which he and three other members received the 2021 President’s Award for their leadership on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee’s Active Ally Program) and a former Chair of the Membership Committee (for which he received the 2019 Joan Fullam Irick Award honoring exceptional work by a committee chair). Joe has also served as a past Mid-Year Meeting CLE Steering Committee Chair and is currently a member of the Engagement & Retention Committee and the Membership Committee.

In addition to his service for IADC, Joe is a former National Director on the DRI Board of Directors and was the recipient of the DRI Sheryl J. Willert Pioneer Diversity Award in 2019. He is also a member of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Committee at Porter Hedges.
