Hurricane Harvey’s devastation may seem a distant memory, but for too many Gulf Coast families, the difficult recovery work continues.  So when Texas Rural Legal Aid’s (“TRLA”) C-Bar program sent out a call for assistance with a Harvey reconstruction project, Porter Hedges was moved to step up.  The TRLA, which serves rural areas where pro bono services can be scarce, connected the firm with the Victoria County Long Term Recovery Group (“VCLTRG”), a non-profit organization located in hurricane-ravaged Victoria County, about two hours southwest of Houston.  The VCLTRG, along with a coalition of other non-profit organizations, has built a neighborhood of new homes for deserving families, all outside of the flood plain.  For our part, Porter Hedges attorneys assisted 24 families with the legal process to close on and acquire their “forever homes“ and we are currently working with another family on the 25th closing!  The VCLTRG’s goal is to build at least 15 additional homes, for a grand total of 40 new homes.  Porter Hedges is looking forward to assisting the families that will acquire these new homes.
