Porter Hedges Elects Five Partners for 2017

Porter Hedges announced today that Joseph L. Morrel (Corporate), Aaron J. Power (Bankruptcy), R. Blake Runions (Litigation) and M. Harris Stamey (Litigation) have been elected as partners effective January 1, 2017.

This is always a proud moment for the firm, especially when four members of this class have practiced at Porter Hedges for their entire legal career,” said Managing Partner Rob Reedy.

Joseph L. Morrel (Corporate)

Joe is a partner in our Corporate practice. He advises public and private companies in the acquisition or disposition of businesses and going concerns through mergers, equity purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, and other forms of combination or exchange agreements, as well as in general corporate matters and compliance with securities laws. He received his J.D., summa cum laude, from The University of Texas School of Law and his B.B.A., summa cum laude, from Loyola University New Orleans. After law school, Joe served as a law clerk to the Honorable Carolyn Dineen King of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Joe is an active member of the firm’s recruiting committee and was selected for inclusion in Texas Rising Stars for Mergers & Acquisitions in 2013 – 2016.

Aaron J. Power (Bankruptcy)

Aaron is a partner in our Bankruptcy section.  His practice focuses on corporate reorganizations and restructurings, creditors’ rights, and trustee representation. Aaron received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Southwestern Law School and his B.S., summa cum laude, from Northeastern University. Aaron served as a law clerk to the Honorable Carolyn Dineen King of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Honorable Jeff Bohm of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. He is President of the Bankruptcy Section of the Houston Bar Association and was selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers for Bankruptcy in 2016.

R. Blake Runions (Litigation)

Blake is a partner in our Litigation section.  His practice focuses on representation of domestic and foreign entities and individuals in a range of business disputes and investigatory matters. His trial experience includes jury trials in state and federal courts as well as arbitration proceedings. Prior to Porter Hedges, Blake worked in the accounting, finance, and business assurance groups at a major international oil and gas company in Houston, where he was involved in financial reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and merger and acquisition accounting.  He received his J.D., cum laude, from University of Houston Law Center and his B.B.A., summa cum laude, from Harding University.

M. Harris Stamey (Litigation)

Harris is a partner in our Energy Litigation section.  His practice consists of complex commercial litigation cases with a focus on oil and gas related disputes in state and federal courts in Texas and Louisiana. He advises large exploration and production companies, mid-size corporations, local companies, partnerships, operators, non-operators, and individuals as both plaintiffs and defendants.  Harris received his J.D., magna cum laude, from South Texas College of Law and his B.A. from Vanderbilt University. He is a member of the firm’s Recruiting Committee and was selected for inclusion in the Texas Rising Stars for Business Litigation in 2016.
