Porter Hedges is pleased to announce that it has implemented a billable hour credit policy to recognize the efforts and contributions by individual lawyers to promote and advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in the legal profession.

“We are working each day to enhance our Firm’s diversity efforts and advance our diversity initiatives. The Firm’s new DEIB billable hour policy is part of the personal commitment that I made for the Leaders at the Front pledge through the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity,” said Managing Partner Robert Reedy.

Associates and Of Counsel will receive billable hour credit for their involvement in a variety of DEIB activities that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Acting as a law student mentor in the Legal Council on Legal Diversity 1L Program;
  2. Serving as a panelist or keynote speaker at law student events hosted by affinity groups or minority law student organizations;
  3. Working on a planning committee for the Texas Minority Counsel Program or for other external DEIB programs and events; or
  4. Handling a pro bono matter under the SURETM (Stimulating Urban Renewal through Entrepreneurship) Program at the University of Houston, Bauer College of Business to provide legal advice to new minority-owned businesses.

“This policy recognizes the important personal contributions of our attorneys and we sincerely encourage all of our attorneys to cultivate diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as core values in their legal practice and careers,” said Partner Joyce Kao Soliman, Chair of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Committee.
