The Firm is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2023 Porter Hedges 1L Diversity Fellowship.

Deena Chahadeh is a first-year law student at South Texas College of Law Houston. She graduated from Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business with a bachelor’s degree in real estate finance and minors in history and political science.

Deena was selected from a competitive pool of highly-qualified applicants from law schools across the country. As a fellowship recipient, she will receive a salaried Summer Associate position for 2023 in the Firm’s Houston office and the opportunity to earn up to $25,000 in stipends throughout her participation in the program.

“Our fellowship program continues to attract top talent from across the nation,” said Hiring Partner Heather Hatfield. “Deena possesses the attributes that we look for in the individuals we see as future leaders in our firm.”

The Porter Hedges 1L Diversity Scholarship is awarded annually to a first-year law student with a strong commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion on their campus, in the community, and during their tenure with the Firm.

“As a firm, we are committed to the success of the Porter Hedges diversity fellowship and other programs like it, which create more equitable opportunities in the legal profession,” said Joyce Kao Soliman, chair of the Firm’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Committee.
